After living here for over 35 years, I had my first walk in this local cemetery in November of 2025. Almost immediately, I was struck by the quiet, peaceful feeling. The carpet of fall leaves, amongst the somewhat irregular rows of headstones drew me in. The cemetery was founded in 1866 on 30 acres in South East Portland and is publicly owned and maintained by Metro. It's name derives from a lone Douglas Fir tree found on the land when the cemetery was first started. I'll be back.
