U of O – Concordia Campus
In the Spring of 2020, Concordia University closed its doors. Then two years later, the University of Oregon purchased the 19 acre Concordia University campus. Before the purchase, I took hundreds of photos of the campus, first out of my own curiosity and then to document a place that was destined to change once there were new owners. After a long absence from the campus, I returned in March of 2026 and took these photographs. Much to my delight, although much has changed, the essence of Concordia is still evident.
Lone Fir Cemetery
After living here for over 35 years, I had my first walk in this local cemetery. It was founded in 1866 on 30 acres in South East Portland and is publicly owned and maintained by Metro. It's name derives from the lone Douglas Fir tree found on the land when the cemetery was first started.
Cannon River in Northfield, MN
In October, 2025, Susan and I took a road trip to visit Claire in Northfield, MN.
Inner SE Portland, near OMSI
Photos taken during a field trip with the Photographing Portland PCC class in January, 2025. We started at the CLIMB Center on SE Water Ave and walked along the Willamette river, near I-5, to OMSI.
Manzanita, Oregon
There's this creek that comes in through the dunes and across the beach to the ocean; a little world all to it's own.
Hoyt Arboretum, Portland 2023
Located near the Oregon Zoo and the Vietnam Veterans of Oregon Memorial and just 10 minutes from downtown Portland, this is a gem.
NE Portland
Along NE Lombard Street and out at Broughton Beach by the Columbia River. A really great day for clouds. All of these photographs were taken with a Leica Q3 I was trying out for a few of days in November of 2024.
Burlington Northern Railroad Bridge
This railroad bridge goes across the Willamette River, upstream from the St. Johns Bridge. When I drove out through NW Portland to this bridge, I discovered that there's no place to park within my walking distance. Undaunted, I found a place to park about a mile and a half away, then rode my bike to the bridge. I spotted these palettes on the way to the bridge.
Pier Park, St. Johns
My good friend, Randy McKeeman, introduced me to this park in January of 2022. I think of him often when I return to be in the presence of these tall trees.
Downtown Portland buildings
When I have some time, and I'm in the area, there's often a building that causes me to slow down and pause.
Broughton Beach
Since around 2020, I've been visiting Broughton Beach, which is located on the Columbia River, close to the Portland Airport.
Broadway Bridge
In the fall of 2020, I enrolled in a photography class, Developing a Personal Project. For my final project, I started working with a collection of photographs I had taken of the Broadway Bridge. The letter to Behn, my father, grew out of my work with the photos.
